Watching, Listening, Remembering.

I really dislike the new format. Oh well.

Getting ready for the upcoming legislative fights starting next year; specifically, overhauling the Commonwealth's weapon laws. Complete revamp. Here's hoping it has at least some positive effect.

Of late I have had to explain myself to an increasing number of folk, that is, in regards to political stance. Folk seem to find it objectionable that I have no party affiliation, at all. When asked, I say that I go my own way, that I am a free person, and by the Gods, I will remain that way. I make up my own mind on each issue on its own merits. Generally, I ask myself a series of questions, always containing the following;

"Does it benefit most folk and harm as few as possible?"

"Does it increase liberty and equality under the law?"

"Does it segregate, in any form, segments of the population, for any reason?"

"Does it restrict basic rights and freedoms?"

The answers had better be "Yes, Yes, No, and No" else I am highly unlikely to support it. Where did I get these notions? The Founding Fathers. They often voted to support things they were privately against precisely because the subject at hand promoted liberty and freedom for more people. Yes, I am aware of the state of things at that time; landed white guys got to vote. A distraction from the main thrust of this commentary and it does not change the actions taken by these men at that time.

So. I am not liberal. I am not conservative. I detest democrat and republican parties equally. I think for myself. Personally, I think more people ought to think for themselves and do a lot less of whole party philosophizing, but obviously I am in the minority there.

I am conservative about the Constitution in general. I do believe it is a living document...but only in the direction of increased liberty, freedom, and equality for the citizenry. I am opposed, fiercely, to restrictions placed on it, such as DOMA, and any kind of restriction of the 2nd Amendment. I reject the idea that corporations are people, I do think one of the basic rights of the citizens is to good, accessible (that also includes affordable) healthcare (under the Promote the General Welfare portion of the preamble), I think folk have a right to affordable housing, to work without having to jump through credit hoops and other impediments.

I think churches should be allowed to decide who they will marry for their own congregations, not everyone else, and that marriage should either be available to all in complete form, or have all secular rights and benefits stripped of it and placed in the hands of the secular and civil contractual setting marriage originally was...those rights and those contracts open to everyone. Let the churches practice their own brand of hate; karma is a cast iron Bitch.

Freedom of Speech is just that, and it applies to all of us. End of story. You do not get to cherry pick it.

I am fiercely opposed to the Patriot Act and all the subsequent legislation it has cleared the way for.

In short, I am no one's puppet. At all. I am a Free Person and I will remain so. I think for myself, and will continue to do so. I stand by my principles and will go to all necessary lengths to keep them. I am still subject to the oath I swore when I joined the Corps. I am watching, listening, and remembering.

*Bump!*

For those who have the Sight, the world is a very different place. Not all of those things the go bump in the night are imaginary. They never have been. Sometimes it is indeed just your own mind gnawing at deep seated and often atavistic fears, which apparently can cause the body to start providing the things one fears. Or summoning them.

When we lived in Amherst and Taliesin was very young, he had his own room for a little time...but he would awaken at night screaming in terror and speak of the Shadow People watching him, coming toward him. It was put down to Night Terrors by his pediatrician. Later, realizing the main power line to the house entered just below that room, I took EMF readings and they were quite significant. High EMF can trigger all sorts of things.

The house was well protected and warded, as is my habit, but I still had suspicions..which I did not voice. The child was frightened enough already. So we moved him into the bigger bedroom with his brother and the screaming stopped. You might say that not being alone took care of it.

The trouble with that was that the same room had been my computer room before, and periodically I would catch shadows from the corner of my eye, or feel like someone or something was watching me, or that something malevolent was in the room. Unlike a child, I am not easily frightened by things; I have seen things that would curdle your blood, so this sort of thing was not new. Still, I never got a good look.

It wasn't long after that two things happened; Faeries flitted about outside the kitchen window and both boys saw them plain as day, and Tristan spotted a...creature, along with his friends, under a fir tree not far from home. For a long time he tried to convince himself he didn't see it..but recently he has admitted to seeing both that creature and the Fae. In the modern manifest world you can suffer some serious social repercussions for speaking openly about such thing, especially in school or to classmates. Any sign of weakness, real or imagined, is pounced upon. Sad, but true. As a result, I understood it.

Taliesin discovered the various investigations concerning the Shadow People and that has triggered some interesting conversations. Knowing others had similar experiences lifted a burden he had been carrying for years. It put things into perspective, so to speak. The notion that perhaps he was simply seeing them through the thin barrier between dimensions intrigues him...and scares him, as it ought to.

As a result, I had to have the discussion concerning gates, or portals. Three times in my life I have walked into one of these damned things...and I am happy that I have always kept my head so was able to back up out of them, although the last time I fell and rolled so it was fortunate the scenery was a snowy pine forest...I followed my marks in the snow back to where they appeared and walked back through. I was living in Santa Barbara at the time and was walking in the street when it happened.

Twice before that I had walked through gates...and stopped dead, backing up, literally, and returning to where I had been. In all three cases the scenery on the other side had been radically different from here. It wasn't a case of imagination. The stumbles that always came with the transition only made me fall the one time and that was because I was on the brow of a hill in fairly deep snow. In shorts and t-shirt. Yeah.

Reading about various cases through history where someone would simply 'disappear', yet folk could still hear them calling right there was fascinating. It has happened right along through history. Not hard to find, if you look for the cases.

Anyway, aside from being SpecEd, Taliesin has had to deal with a serious case of the Sight; he sees the world as it is, not as the manifest world would have it. Partly due to me never teaching him not to see..which is the usual routine. Much as my mother never taught me not to see. For Talie, finding out that he was not alone outside of his family was a huge thing. Huge. He still hasn't anyone to talk to about it outside of the family, but it is still a comfort for him.

The world is a far more wild, more wonderful, and more dangerous place than most folk will ever know. I feel privileged to be able to see it...but also sometimes disturbed; it isn't all pleasant. For all of those who are sure perfect peace and love are possible and only human naughtiness prevents it...well, those folk have a very long walk on their path to Wisdom yet. That is all I can say on the matter.

We know science and it is a wonderful thing...but we only know a very little of all there is to know and we haven't even discovered some of the abilities we have within us..so of course haven't developed any way to apply science to them. For the most part.

Think of all that we do not know as an endless darkness, and all that we do know as a campfire in that darkness. The things we know best and most about are the center of the flames where the light is brightest...but swiftly the light fades into the darkness...and there is far more darkness than light where our knowledge is concerned. Far more.

Never assume something is written in stone and therefore immutable...even stone erodes away. The only real constant is Change.

Musing

Re-think; reloading gear for my SAFN 49. Since the ammunition is new, not milsurp, reloading the brass is now an option. Reloading gear is not cheap, but the dies and whatnot are a one time expense after which all one needs are powder, primers, & bullets..occasionally new brass. The idea, however, is to reload extant and expended brass casings. It can extend the life of certain weapons. I am re-considering this. While I know how to make black powder, it is a tricky process at best and if I can delay that necessity, it might be a good thing.

I have noted the old Krag 98 used five round stripper clips, like the SAFN 49 does...therefore, the ammo pouch design used by that old rifle ought to work with mine. For one thing, both fired 8mm Mauser. If I can get good photos of one of these pouches, or a good replica, I can then replicate them myself.

Nabbing a few more ammo cans; this I will do, and not necessarily to do with firearms. These cans are very useful for a number of things.

Tristan is gearing up for his EMT training...and looking beyond to hopefully being a surgeon. He'll be useful as hell if things go to hell in a handbasket and he survives the collapse. He's got a good tactical trauma kit too and he and a friend are going in on a 'dummy' which is made to simulate human tissue such that students can learn what it feels like to use scalpel and sutures. Wise choice, although I think eventually there are going to be a lot of cadavers....though what killed them might make using them dicey.

The dreams continue, even with their modern flavoring. It is most disturbing really. My dreams are disturbing anyway; internally consistent, completely cohesive, and very much like living life rather than dreaming for the most part, in full color with full sensory input. Worse, if they come three times identical in every detail they come to pass...thank all the Gods that happens so rarely. I don't think I could take it if it were common.

On the other hand, some of the other dreams can be even more disturbing....like the ones that feature Herself or related Folk. That old river dream comes to mind far too easily.

Ever since the accident I have had such intense dreams, every night..and I live with one foot in each world all the time. Tolkien had it right when he said that one who had lived for a time in the Blessed Realm lived at once in both worlds ever after. Well, I went to the Summer Lands and She sent me back and boy howdy, living in both worlds at once hardly does it justice. At least I have learned to focus on the manifest as needed. Sheesh!

Definitely going to use my BDU trousers as patterns to make my own...NOT cammo patterned, but grey rather. One thing I suspect will happen is that eventually the authorities will be looking for 'survivalist' types and wearing cammo will shout that out nicely. This would be during the harsher times as the collapse deepens. Me, greys and browns with some dull greens..the eye tends to slide over those rather than focus on them. Neutral tones.

I hear people recommending stocking up for three years...but of course, anyone having more than 72 hours worth of disaster preparedness is, by definition, a terrorist suspect. Interesting that. Of course, I also hear periodic comments about 'shotgun shopping'.

Live life, do not just endure it. Take that any way you like, or not as you see fit.

Restless & Hunting

Dreaming continues. Essentially the same content. Not reassuring. I am puzzled by the (mostly) modern aspects of them. This is a recent thing and not at all calming; far too much like the manifest world for comfort.

From weapons to clothing, much of it is 'modern' in the sense of 20th century on type stuff, with a smattering of earlier bits and pieces here and there. Some of it is obviously custom made, I assume by me or someone I know, not commercial in appearance. At least, I haven't found anything that looks like it is commercial. Gear is similarly across the board. In one instance I was sitting in a thoroughly hobbit style home with lamps and firelight using entirely modern equipment to reload brass casings for weapons. O-o I do not own such equipment, for one thing. Never really thought about having it either.

The weapon is one I own...yet it is not the weapon I would choose in such a situation. Dreams are so weird sometimes. Still, the whole is entirely too cohesive and consistent for comfort. These dreams are partly responsible for my restless nature of late.

The Mountains feature...and not the Rockies either. More like the Green or White Mountains further North...which is unsettling for a number of reasons. For one thing, moving North has been an active consideration for a while. For another, the hike on the AT takes me into those Mountains. It is all so odd.

There are grappling hooks (which I do not have), climbing ropes (which I intend to replace and upgrade), climbing hardware (which I have and intend to augment), skis (which I have), snowshoes (which I have), a kind of reversible parka (which I do not have), low boots and gaiters of Mountain sort (which I do not have), pants of a sort I do not have and have not seen, and so on....very strange.

There are the knives of an earlier age, fire making kit of the same sort, rations of similar kind, leather kit obviously made from buckskin, all sorts of things here and there. Just...weird.

There is nothing I can do about them, of course. I will proceed as I have done. It is just these dreams make me really restless. I'm sure I will get smacked if I am going the wrong way. Experience indicates this would be the case.

For the moment, Hunting Season has arrived and it has my focus. Not least because Jannat and Taliesin are taking their course on Basic Hunter Safety. :) Hopefully this year will see some game in the freezer.

Taliesin is after a good compound bow and I know just the one that would suit himself and Jannat too. Won't happen right off but they are something to aim for. I already have a compound bow. As far as firearms, that is up to them and what they might choose (or not) remains to be seen. Tristan is after a Weatherby hunting rifle, probably in .270 Winchester or .308 Remington. Low capacity, reliable, simple to operate, and good general weapon. I suspect Taliesin and Jannat would choose something similar.

Aside from all of that, hiking has expanded into new sections of the Robert Frost trail....a section that is amazingly rugged and steep too. This portion is in Leverett and runs up to the end of the trail in Wendell State Forest. Total length is about 6.7 miles but it is some rugged country and very different from the segment that runs through Ox Hill, Roaring Mountain, and Mount Toby. The section that runs from the Notch through the conservation area in Amherst has yet to be traversed. Eventually we will have covered the entire 40 + mile length of the trail. Then comes the M&M and of course, the AT. Steady on.

Some of these trails pass near or through hunting areas so of course looking for sign is a constant activity.

Currently it is bear season....next month will start deer season. We are seriously under way.

Grumbly

The dreams have been going right along, similar themes for the most part, although details sometimes vary. Kind of disturbing really.

I deactivated my FB account; I've finally gotten fed up with it enough to walk away from it. Honestly, it isn't much more than flypaper for e-folk, much like twitter and texting. Personal opinion, naturally.

I have a lot to do. Hunting season starts this month and I have every intention of getting out there as often as possible. Both in Longhunter and medieval kit and clothing. I shan't use modern weapons for hunting; as I have often said, if I can do it with the primitive, I can do it far more easily with the modern.

Since I need no orange for the bow except during the gun seasons in December, and since this year I am likely to be using my black powder weapons at least half of that month, if not all of it, my orange will be a weskit. At some point I will make a jupon and coif, but for the moment I can hunt without them.

I am still terribly restless...moreso, if that is possible. I am not at all at ease with things even though they seem to be going on as usual without any real signs of faltering.

The entire political scene is like swimming in a sewer. Ken Dolls with pseudo religious zealots worshiping a power mad platform of fear and hatred vs people who think throwing money at everything to keep the status quo is a viable way of life. There is no shred of reality in any of it, just shadows of something the parties involved wish to be. I think it noteworthy that despite a lot of the outrageous crap being vomited up by the parties, there is no sign of real public outrage. They have done their jobs well...and the 'social media' along with the so-called 'real' media are part and parcel of that situation.

I think it very possible a pseudo republican government will take power later this year. I think huge steps backward are coming...and while we are going to collapse and a new state of living will happen, it doesn't have to be done in a stupid, blind, rabid, religious way. But that is most likely what we will get should those guys win. It will be as it is meant to be. We could influence it, but the pronounced lack if interest shown by so many implies that we shall not.

There's the very real dislike of being tied to two parties, who feed at the same trough and are essentially the same in too many ways. I do not wish to vote for any evil, let alone a lesser one...so I also dislike being told I *have* to vote for someone or be casting an essential vote for the other. A vote is a statement...which is valid whomever it is cast for..and even if one is not cast at all. It is a statement as clear as any other aspect of a vote. So piss off if you don't agree with it..that's your problem, not mine. I will vote, or not, as I please.

I am surprised a bit at women. Anne Coulter essentially said that she'd be okay with losing her right to vote if her entire gender did. *blinks* Wow. Where was the outrage for that one? Not only is the right trying to dictate what women do with their own lives and bodies (essential slavery) but some of the women on that side are also thinking it would okay for them to lose the vote because they aren't smart enough to do so? Wow. Just wow. Slavery indeed. Yet...no real reaction. Interesting.

Where was the reaction to the Republican Platform? Just wow. Not much of a reaction at all. Interesting.

Things are about to get really interesting, regardless of who wins in November. Me, I'm going to hunt, and work on survival and preparation, regardless of who wins. Either way I will need to be ready...and I have not forgotten it was our current President who signed the NDAA....

Not much to choose between.

Keep your powder dry. Watch your topknot.
